It aims to provide quality studies in all visual media (photography, graphic design, printmaking, painting, drawing, ceramics, sculpture, and art history), to provide an environment in which students from the region can understand their personal place in the history of art, to provide the skills needed for both employment or continued studies in their area, and to provide a degree in visual arts, with a concentration in studio art, applied arts, art history,\u00a0or art education.<\/p>\n<p>The university awards the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a major in art to students who, in addition to satisfying the minimum requirements for graduation from the College of Arts and Sciences, complete the art curriculum outline. Art majors are encouraged to consider a second area of\u00a0emphasis while pursuing their course work at the 300-level or higher.\u00a0 Art majors and minors must earn a C or better in all ART courses.<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Art also offers a concentration in art educatin with K-12 certification.<\/p>\n<h4>Accreditation<\/h4>\n<p>The art program is built upon a broad liberal arts foundation and preparation in studio disciplines required for careers in the visual arts and design. The \u00a0 Art program \u00a0is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design.<\/p>\n<h4>Criteria for Completion<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Students must successfully complete ART 496 and either 497 or 498.<\/li>\n<li>Students with an emphasis in graphic design must complete ART 457.<\/li>\n<li>Students must successfully complete three evaluations with Department of Art faculty: a sophomore evaluation after completion of 30 hours of art courses, a senior evaluation during the semester before enrolling in ART 496 and 497 or 498 and a final evaluation at the end of ART 496 and 497 or 498.<\/li>\n<li>Graduating seniors must reserve calendar dates for their degree exhibition in the gallery the semester prior to graduation. These evaluations will be conducted in accordance with\u00a0set departmental schedules\u00a0and with participation of the art faculty. Art majors must assume responsibility for requesting each of these evaluations in writing to \u00a0the Art Department Head \u00a0prior to mid-semester.<\/li>\n<li>Graduating students must provide\u00a0photographic evidence and\/or copies as evidence of their\u00a0senior capstone project for departmental files at their final evaluation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Minors<\/h4>\n<p>A minor in art studio\u00a0requires the completion of 24 hours in ART courses. The minor must include ART 201, 251, and 252, and 15 hours of ART electives\u00a0with at least 6\u00a0hours\u00a0in courses numbered 300 or above.<\/p>\n<p>A minor in art history requires the completion of 24 credit hours in art history to include Art 280, 281, 282, 383, 392, 480 and an additional 6 credit hours of art history at the 300+ level. \u00a0 3 credit hours of foreign language may be taken in place of one art history elective.<\/p>\n<p>Transfer Students<\/p>\n<p>It is suggested that transfer students submit portfolios or reproductions of their work to enable the faculty to
