The Department offers the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. The nursing program has approval of the Louisiana State Board of Nursing (LSBN),\u00a017373 Perkins Road, Baton Rouge, LA 70810, (225) 755-7500. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), One Dupont Circle, NW, Suite 530 Washington, DC 20036, (202) 463-6930. Graduates are eligible to apply to take the licensure examination for registered nurse (NCLEX-RN).<\/p>\n

Due to the limited number of faculty and clinical facilities, a quota has been placed on the number of students admitted to clinical nursing courses. To be admitted to the program, a student must first meet the requirements of the university and then make a separate application to the \u00a0program. The policy outlining priorities for admission can be obtained from the Department upon request. Admission and curriculum requirements are subject to change as deemed necessary by the faculty and administration to ensure an effective program of study.<\/p>\n

There are expenses unique to the nursing program over and above the university expenses. The student handbook describes the expenses as well as policies unique to \u00a0the program. The student handbook can be downloaded from www.nicholls.edu\/nursing<\/a>.<\/p>\n

All students seeking acceptance into the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program must petition the Louisiana State Board of Nursing in writing for the right to practice as students of nursing in Louisiana prior to enrolling in the first clinical course. Furthermore, it is the responsibility of any student charged with, convicted of, pled guilty or no contest to, or been sentenced for any criminal offense in any state to provide certified documentation of charges, indictment, and pardon or restitution.<\/p>\n

Individuals who are not U.S. citizens are expected to have an Alien Registration number.<\/p>\n

A student cannot earn a minor in nursing.<\/p>\n

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Program<\/h4>\n

The university awards the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree to those students who successfully complete the program below.<\/p>\n

This nursing program prepares the individual for self directed practice, continuing growth in professional nursing, and for formal graduate study. The graduate serves as advocate and provider of nursing services for\u00a0patients of all ages within family and community settings.<\/p>\n

Criteria for Entry, Progression, and Retention<\/h4>\n

Students may apply for entry into NURS 225 by submitting an Application for BSN Clinical Courses. Appropriate dates for submitting applications may be obtained from the Department of Nursing. Students on probationary status are not permitted to enroll in any nursing courses with a clinical component.<\/p>\n
