<\/a><\/p>\n

A major in History requires the completion of 36 hours of History to include HIST 101-102 or 150-151; 255; 256; 371; 491; and 18 hours of History electives (12 of which must be at the 300+ level). Among the History electives, the major is required to complete three upper level hours (advisor-approved) in each of the following areas: United States, European, non-Western History. A minor from another field of interest is optional. History majors planning to attend graduate school are encouraged to take a foreign language sequence instead of electives.<\/p>\n

Minor<\/strong><\/p>\n

A minor in History requires the completion of 18 hours; six hours of freshman- or sophomore-level History courses and 12 additional hours of 300-400-level History courses. A minimum grade of C is required in all courses.<\/p>\n

Public History Minor<\/strong><\/p>\n

A Minor in Public History requires the completion of 18-21 hours: HIST 255, 256, 371, 395 or 397, and either HIST 496 or 497. To fulfill the remaining hours of coursework, students must either complete HIST 497 or HIST 496. A minimum grade of C is required in all courses.<\/p>\n

Black Studies Minor<\/strong><\/p>\n

A minor in Black Studies requires the completion of 18 hours of coursework, 12 hours at the 300+ level, with a minimum grade of C in all coursework. Required courses include: HIST 255 and HIST 256; at least three hours from the following courses: HIST 312 and HIST 313; and at least 6-9 hours from the following elective courses: HIST 304, HIST 325, HIST 358, HIST 326, HIST 327, SOCI 395, MUS 319, MUS 326, GOVT 325, ENGL 323.
\nThree hours of an elective course approved by the Coordinator of Black Studies may be substituted for one of the electives listed above.<\/p>\n

Undergraduate Certificate in Public History<\/strong><\/p>\n

The undergraduate certificate program in Public History offers concentrated study, training, and hands-on experience in Analytical, Communication, Customer Service, Organizational, Problem-Solving, and Research Skills.<\/p>\n

Completion of this certificate allows students to develop skills necessary for employment in a diverse range of public history positions.<\/p>\n

This certificate requires the completion of 21 hours with a minimum grade of C in the following courses: HIST 255, 256, 371, 395, 496 or 497, and 3-6 hours of coursework from HIST 396 or 397 or ENGL 498.<\/p>\n

PRE-LAW PROGRAM
\nMost law schools require the baccalaureate degree before admission. Although almost any degree is acceptable, the College of Liberal Arts recommends a degree in political science or history. In addition to the course requirements for the major, students should schedule GOVT 399, GOVT 400, BSAD 221, BSAD 324 and MACO 370. In the fall of their senior year prospective law school students should take the Law School Aptitude Test (L.S.A.T.).<\/p>\n
