  {"id":1503,"date":"2017-09-06T12:58:39","date_gmt":"2017-09-06T17:58:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/culinary\/?p=1503"},"modified":"2017-09-06T12:58:39","modified_gmt":"2017-09-06T17:58:39","slug":"classic-butter-roll","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/culinary\/2017\/09\/06\/classic-butter-roll\/","title":{"rendered":"Classic Butter Roll"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Classic Butter Roll<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Recipe courtesy of Felicia Suzanne Willett, August 2016<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Makes 8 servings<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>FOR THE CRUST:<\/strong><br \/>\n2 cups flour<br \/>\n1 teaspoon salt<br \/>\n1 cup butter, cold<br \/>\n1\/2 cup water<br \/>\n<strong>FOR THE SPREAD:<\/strong><br \/>\n\u00bc cup butter, softened<br \/>\n\u00bc cup sugar<br \/>\n2 teaspoons nutmeg<br \/>\n<strong>FOR THE SAUCE:<\/strong><br \/>\n2 cups Half and Half<br \/>\n1 cup sugar<br \/>\n2 tsp vanilla<br \/>\nIn a food processor, combine the flour, salt and cold butter. Process until the mixture<br \/>\nis crumb like. With the machine running, slowly add enough water until the mixture<br \/>\nforms a ball and cleans itself from the side. Remove the dough and rest for 10<br \/>\nminutes. In a saucepan, combine the cream, sugar and vanilla. Bring to a boil and<br \/>\nremove from the heat and set aside. Lightly flour a work surface. Roll the dough out<br \/>\ninto \u00bc inch thick 12 x 12 rectangle. Smear the butter over the dough. Sprinkle the<br \/>\ndough with the remaining sugar and nutmeg. Starting at one end roll the dough up<br \/>\nlike a cinnamon roll. Refrigerate for 30 minutes. Remove the dough and allow to rest<br \/>\nfor 30 minutes. Preheat the oven 350F. Cut the dough into 8 equal pieces. Lightly<br \/>\ngrease a 9 x 13 baking pan. Place the dough pieces onto the prepared pan. Pour<br \/>\ninto the pan Bake for 30 minutes. Remove and cool slightly. Serve each piece with a<br \/>\nspoonful of the pan sauce over the top. Serve warm. Garnish with mint and whipped<br \/>\ncream.
