THIBODAUX, La. —  Drop by the Ellender Memorial Library<\/a> on Tuesday to play some video games and learn how the library can help you succeed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Open House, part of Colonel Fest<\/a>, is from 2 to 4 p.m. on Aug. 23. The event will feature gaming stations, bingo, trivia, origami demonstrations and food. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOpen House is an event aimed at reducing library anxiety,\u201d said Andrew Barbier<\/a>, Research and Instruction Librarian and Outreach Coordinator. \u201cI feel that there are two main things preventing students from utilizing our resources. The first is taking the first steps through our doors. The second is knowing how to use our resources. Open House will try to solve these two issues.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The various events and tours will help solve those issues. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There will be a gaming station on the first and second floor. On the first floor, a Xbox Series X, will be hooked up to a 4K TV, and on the second floor, a Switch will be hooked up in Study Room 1. ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ Esports will be assisting with the gaming stations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event also includes bingo and library trivia, which will start every 30 minutes beginning at 2 p.m., and the winners of these will be able to claim prizes. Assistant Archivist Mary Katherine Kearns<\/a> will be showing students how to do origami, and while you are in the library, you can check out her origami display on the second floor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Three times per hour, Barbier and other library staff will talk to the students about what the library offers and answer questions. Tours meet at the first floor display cases at 2:15, 2:30, 2:45, 3:15, 3:30 and 3:45 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Open House will feature a self-serve snack table sponsored by ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ State Veterans Organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cColonel Fest is about learning all that ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ has to offer,\u201d Barbier said. \u201cIt is also about getting free stuff. We will have food, games and prizes to win. We also have one of the coolest places on campus, so it is a great way to beat the heat.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
