Spooky games, treats and reading rights have been highlights of an event-packed October at the Ellender Memorial Library.<\/span><\/p>

The highlight of the month was a banned book open mic night on Oct. 8. It featured students and faculty reading excerpts from their favorite books that have been banned in the past and present in various places.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

“Events like Banned Books Open Mic Night highlight the essential role that libraries play in protecting access to information and fostering critical thinking,\u201d said Government Information Librarian Jessica Hawkes. \u201cIt’s a great chance for students to engage with stories that challenge, inspire, and remind us why intellectual freedom matters.”<\/span><\/p>

The library also participated in two trunk or treat events, one with the Little Colonels Academy on Oct. 22 and another at End of Turn Books on Oct 19. Other events included a game night on Oct. 2 and a Halloween themed stream<\/a> on Oct. 30.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Librarians and students also dressed up for Halloween week and candy was also provided by the Thibodaux Service League for students to enjoy a little treat during study sessions.<\/span><\/p>

Events will continue in November, including a stream on Nov. 10 featuring games that encourage cooperation.
