THIBODAUX, La. — Ellender Memorial Library invites you to walk through time with its newest archival exhibit celebrating the 70th Anniversary of when ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ opened its doors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ Goes Platinum: 70 years of ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ History\u201d features photographs and artifacts from historical moments on ÐÓ°É´«Ã½\u2019 campus. Items on display include a photo of ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ first president Dr. Charles Elkins breaking ground on the campus in 1947, the class assignment board former registrar James Powell used to organize classes, the first ticket sold to a ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ football game and some of the early textbooks, student IDs, class schedules and diplomas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis exhibit will have a compilation of photos, memorabilia and artifacts that tell the story of ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ over the last 70 years,\u201d said Clifton Theriot, library director. \u201cWe have displays dedicated to people, places and things important to ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ past, including events, like Western Week; the evolution of our mascot, Col. Tillou; and campus organizations, like ROTC.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
A grand opening of the exhibit will be held following the ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ Alumni Jazz Brunch at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 23 \u2013 the day, 70 years ago, that Francis T. ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ Junior College opened. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The exhibit, which is free and open to the public, will be available to view from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, in the archives and special collections department of the library, located on the first floor. The exhibit will be open through December. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
