THIBODAUX, La. \u2014 Local author, photographer and ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ alum William Guion will hold a book signing and exhibit of his photographs this month at Ellender Memorial Library. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
His photographs are currently on display throughout the library. Guion (B.A. \u201875) will be signing his latest book, \u201cQuercus Louisiana: The Splendid Live Oaks of Louisiana\u201d from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17 on the first floor. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cQuercus Louisiana is a collection of photographic images and stories covering more than three decades in which I\u2019ve been documenting Louisiana\u2019s historic and notable live oaks,\u201d Guion said. \u201cReaders will discover some of Louisiana\u2019s oldest oaks that predate European settlement of the state; stroll visually through grand antebellum-era oak alleys; learn about the creation of the Live Oak Society; and, uncover the anecdotes and accounts of generations of diverse people who settled, set down roots, and built their homes near the oaks\u2019 sheltering limbs.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Published earlier this year, Quercus Louisiana contains photographs and stories of notable historic live oaks from across the state. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Guion has documented live oaks across the country for the last three decades. His work has appeared in magazines, journals, books and museums. He has published four books prior to Quercus Louisiana: \u201cHeartwood, Meditations on Southern Oaks\u201d in 1998; \u201cHeartwood, Further Meditations on Oaks\u201d in 2009; \u201cAcross Golden Hills \u2013 Meditations on California Oaks\u201d in 2013; and \u201cLaura Plantation \u2013 Images and Impressions\u201d in 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
