THIBODAUX – ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ students recently chose Ugochukwu Ezema of Kingston, Jamaica, to represent the institution as Mr. ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ – and Marquita Christy of Donaldsonville to reign as Ms. ÐÓ°É´«Ã½.
The announcement was made at the university’s annual Crawfish Day celebration for students and employees.
Mr. and Ms. ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ nominees must have earned at least a 2.5 grade point average and must be active in student organizations. Finalists for the honor are selected by a committee of students, faculty and staff and chosen via popular vote by ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ students.
Ezema, a graduating biology senior, is vice president of the ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ International Community and a Student Government Association senator. A former ambassador for the NAACP, disk jockey for KNSU and homecoming king, Ezema was also a member of Young Democrats and the Pre-Professional Medical Association.
Christy, a psychology major who plans to graduate in Spring 2010, is chapter vice president of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. and director of public relations for the Student Government Association. A former camp director and counselor for LA GEAR UP, Christy is also a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity.
