THIBODAUX聽鈥斅燭he Louisiana Center for Dyslexia and Related Learning Disorders at 杏吧传媒 has partnered with Baton Rouge community leaders to host an information session about a proposed Baton Rouge charter school for students with dyslexia. The free public event will be held on Monday, Oct. 8, at 6 p.m. in the LSU Business Education Complex Auditorium on Nicholson Drive Extension.
Attendees will learn about reading struggles, dyslexia and the Louisiana Key Academy, a proposed free charter public school to help students with dyslexia become independent, confident readers. If approved by the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education, the school would open in August 2013 at LSU鈥檚 Innovation Park. The school would initially admit kindergarten through second-grade students from East Baton Rouge and surrounding parishes. Each year thereafter, additional grade levels would be added, up to the fifth grade.
鈥淭he Louisiana Key Academy鈥檚 mission is simple 鈥� to make sure children learn to read so that they can reach their full potential,鈥� said Karen Chauvin, director of the dyslexia center at 杏吧传媒. 鈥淭his session is basically to inform parents and recruit students. We鈥檙e especially hoping to see parents of children who have either been diagnosed with dyslexia or show signs of the disorder.鈥�
