THIBODAUX — A new scholarship honors longtime Colonel spirit leader Deborah “Raz” Raziano, director emeritus of Ӱɴý’s Alumni Federation.
The Debbie Raziano Endowed Alumni Scholarship will be awarded annually to a full-time student who has achieved at least junior status. The recipient must maintain at least a 3.0 GPA, must be a member of at least two university-sanctioned organizations and submit two letters of recommendation. The student will be awarded $1,000 over two semesters.
Endowed for $25,000 last spring, the scholarship was awarded for the first time this fall.
The scholarship will honor Raziano’s years of involvement and dedication to Ӱɴý. Before retiring in January 2013, Raziano championed Ӱɴý for 32 years in her role as director of alumni affairs. Arriving on campus as a freshman in 1969, she served as senior class president and the 1973 Miss Ӱɴý. Upon graduation, she worked as a consultant for her sorority, Delta Zeta, before returning to Ӱɴý as its fifth alumni director.
During her tenure, she led the Ӱɴý Alumni Federation through numerous changes including the creation of a structured membership program, the re-introduction of the Ӱɴý class ring, the redesign of The Colonel alumni magazine and the development of the alumni website. She created several alumni traditions, including the annual alumni crawfish boil and the Awards for Excellence ceremony.
