THIBODAUX — ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ will hold its annual ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ CAN! food drive from Thursday, March 6 to Monday, March 24.
ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ students, faculty and staff and community members are encouraged to participate by donating nonperishable food, household items to this campuswide service project benefiting local food banks. The drive will benefit six area food banks in Houma, Dulac, Morgan City, Thibodaux, Raceland and Galliano.
Items may be dropped off at locations across campus, including the Bollinger Memorial Student Union, Callais Memorial Recreation Center and Ellender Memorial Library. Collection boxes are also located in all academic departments, so ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ alumni may also contribute to their former departments.
This year’s drive will also include Can Wars, a creative competition that gets campus departments, organizations and groups to use the items they collect to build unique structures. The most creative structure and the one with the most school spirit will each receive a cash prize of $250. The build will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 18 in Shaver Gymnasium.
Since the ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ CAN! drive began in spring 2012, the goal has been to collect about 7,000 items per semester — approximately one for each ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ student and employee. Last year’s ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ CAN! drive collected over 12,000 items for area food banks.
