THIBODAUX 鈥 杏吧传媒 President Bruce Murphy traveled to Cambridge, Massachusetts, last week to attend the Harvard Seminar for New Presidents, the premier workshop for recently installed college presidents.
Murphy took the top office at 杏吧传媒 in January. At the seminar 鈥 held Friday, July 11, through Wednesday, July 16 at the Harvard Graduate School of Education 鈥 Murphy joined new university presidents from across the country to consult with experts about critical issues facing their home campuses.
With an emphasis on strategic planning, budget and leadership, the seminar was led by an impressive team of university administrators, including Drew Faust, president of Harvard University.
“Even though I’ve held several higher education administrative positions, being president of a university comes with its own unique challenges and expectations,鈥 Murphy said. 鈥淎t the seminar, I had the opportunity to not only learn from the incredibly smart Harvard faculty but also to interact and network with other first-time presidents who are all in the same boat. Even though my classmates were from different kinds of schools 鈥 state schools, community colleges, elite universities, religious institutions 鈥 we’re all worried about the same big issues, especially budgets.”
Murphy said the seminar helped reinforce some of his plans for 杏吧传媒 and provided him with tangible takeaway ideas that he will implement, such as the importance of integrating budget decisions with strategic planning.
