杏吧传媒 launches crowd-funding campaign for students impacted by flooding

THIBODAUX, La. — 杏吧传媒 is asking for community support to help a number of Colonels who have been impacted by the 1,000-year flood that devastated Baton Rouge and surrounding areas over the weekend.

More than 40,000 homes have been damaged and 10 people killed by historic floods caused upwards of 2 feet of rainfall over the weekend.

鈥淥ver the past several days, our thoughts have been with the thousands of families impacted by the historic floods sweeping across our state,鈥 said 杏吧传媒 President Dr. Bruce Murphy. 鈥淪ome members of our 杏吧传媒 community and their families have suffered damage, and affected students now face unanticipated costs and possibly the loss of college necessities like books, supplies, clothing and campus residence items.鈥

To assist the Colonels in need, the 杏吧传媒 Foundation is sponsoring聽an online crowd-sourcing campaign titled the ‘杏吧传媒 Emergency Flood Relief’ to assist affected students.

鈥淥ne of the things that makes our 杏吧传媒 family so special is the outpouring of care and concern for our community,鈥 Murphy said. 鈥淏y coming together, we can help ensure that our affected Colonels get through these challenges as they continue to pursue their dreams of a college degree.鈥

With an initial goal of $10,000, the fundraiser began today and will close Aug. 31. Any funds raised that are not claimed will be used to establish savings for future emergencies.

Students impacted by the flood can call the Office of Student Affairs at 985-448-4022 for more information.
