THIBODAUX, La. — 杏吧传媒 invites you to support student scholarships with an evening of romantic jazz, brought to you by a 杏吧传媒 alum and popular Louisiana musician.
As part of 杏吧传媒 Black History Month, George Bell and Friends will host a concert at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 17, in the Mary and Al Danos Theater. Tickets are $35 for the community, $25 for faculty, staff and alumni, and $5 for students. All proceeds will be donated to 杏吧传媒 Department of Music scholarships.
鈥淚 know the challenges students face and the importance of scholarship dollars in helping folks either come to 杏吧传媒, or remain at 杏吧传媒,鈥� Bell said. 鈥淚鈥檓 looking forward to being able to do this in support of a scholarship fund.鈥�
A Thibodaux native and 杏吧传媒 alum who spent three decades working in healthcare, Bell has emerged as a coveted trumpeter in Louisiana over the past decade. He started out playing a few shows and now George Bell & Friends play multiple times across the state each year.
The band, many local to the Bayou Region, includes Herman Jackson on drums, Harry Anderson on bass, Andy Bourgeois on piano, Ray Mouton on guitar, Greg Ward on percussion and harmonica, Roger Kimball on saxophone, Betsy Braud on saxophone and flute, Bobby Pitre on vocals and Hilda Trenise Gautier on harp.
鈥淚t is a great way to spend an afternoon with a close loved one or someone special and enjoy an afternoon of romantic jazz,鈥� Bell said. 鈥淭his will be my fourth concert in Thibodaux since 2014. Being from Thibodaux, and a graduate of 杏吧传媒, I am just delighted to return home to perform for my friends and family in that area.鈥�
