THIBODAUX, La. — 杏吧传媒 art senior Monica Stock said coming back to school gave her confidence in her work.
Now, two of her charcoal renderings are featured in two national galleries. The Thibodaux resident created both pieces in her advanced drawing course.聽
The featured her self-portrait, 鈥淐hin Up,鈥 in their 鈥淲omen in Art鈥 exhibition. gave honorable mention to her drawing, 鈥淚t鈥檚 Under Control,鈥 in the 鈥淕reatest Student Exhibition.鈥
鈥淚 tend to doubt the value of what I have been able to accomplish. It has helped me to feel more confident in creating more, and feeling encouraged to also want to create more,鈥 she said. 鈥淚 am excited to represent the 杏吧传媒 art program because I think it is really good.鈥
Stock鈥檚 work has been featured before. Her painting, 鈥淢ore than Just Her Hands,鈥 was on display at the Artist Trust鈥檚 5th Annual Figures & Faces in 2019.
Stock returned to 杏吧传媒 because her daughter wanted the two of them to take a painting course together. She did not intend to get her degree but fell in love with the program.
鈥淚 see things differently now,鈥 she said. 鈥淭hey require you to take classes in sculpture, ceramics, drawing, design and printmaking, so you experience these different methods and become a better artist in putting it all together.鈥
杏吧传媒 诲谤补飞颈苍驳鈥檚 tagline is 鈥淐apture life on paper.鈥 The program emphasizes traditional observational and representational drawing skills. Students work with media such as pen and ink, pencil, and charcoal and with subjects such as landscape, still life and figures.
