Ethan Naquin Presents at Posters on the Hill for Second Consecutive Year

THIBODAUX, La. — 杏吧传媒 student Ethan Naquin discussed his undergraduate research with congressional representatives and their staff at the symposium.

Naquin鈥檚 research centers on antibiotic-resistant bacteria in local water sources and seafood.

This is Naquin鈥檚 second consecutive year to present, and the seventh consecutive year 杏吧传媒 has been represented at the event. The senior biology pre-med major from Thibodaux delivered his presentation virtually on April 28.

鈥淚 am very honored to be selected to return to present my work,鈥 said Naquin, who also serves as the Student Government Association President. 鈥淭his once again highlights 杏吧传媒鈥 research opportunities and shows that we can compete at the national level.鈥

Each spring, the hosts the event on Capitol Hill. The council selects just one student per state to present. The event shows Congress members and staff the importance of undergraduate research. Because of COVID-19, the past two conferences were virtual.

Naquin, the university鈥檚 first Fulbright semi-finalist, is no stranger to talking about his research. In addition to the 2020 Posters on the Hill, he also presented his findings at the 2019 Green Technologies for Sustainable Water Conference in Vietnam. At the 95th Louisiana Academy of Sciences Conference last month, Naquin took home first place for his oral presentation on the subject. At the same conference, he took home another first-place award for his research into molecular modeling of traditional Houma Indian remedies.

His mentor is Alcee Fortier Distinguished Service Professor Dr. Raj Boopathy. Dr. Boopathy also worked with Naquin鈥檚 brother, Anthony, who presented at the 2015 Posters on the Hill.
