THIBODAUX \u2013 Two faculty members from ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ are scheduled to appear at the Louisiana Book Festival, slated for Saturday,\u00a0Oct.17, at the Louisiana State Capitol and State Library of Louisiana in Baton Rouge. Admission is free.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dr. Daryl Holmes, associate professor of English and editor of the Louisiana English Journal, will serve as a panelist in a discussion titled \u201cCountry Roads Regional Writing,\u201d scheduled for 1 to 2:15 p.m. in the Capitol View Room of the State Library.<\/p>\n

Holmes is a compiler and publisher of two books \u2013 \u201cRecipe for Success: A History and Cookbook of the Fletcher Lecture Series\u201d and \u201cStarting from Scratch: A Cookbook of the Fletcher Lecture Series.\u201d She has a chapbook of poetry forthcoming as well, from Chicory Bloom Press.<\/p>\n

In addition, Holmes is one of five authors whose work was chosen to appear in Country Roads magazine\u2019s 2009 Regional Writings issue \u2013 already distributed throughout the area. She won in the humor category for her submission \u201cA Lunker Legend,\u201d a tale about a drive-in funeral home in a small town in Maine.<\/p>\n

Marcelle Bienvenu, instructor of culinary arts, will participate in two discussions and two book signings. The first discussion, slated for 11 a.m. to noon and titled \u201cDon’t Call It a Gumbo: What Food Tells Us about Louisiana, Beyond the Clich\u00e9s,\u201d will be conducted in Senate Committee Room F, followed by a 45-minute book signing beginning at 12:15 p.m.<\/p>\n

Bienvenu will then move to House Committee Room 3 for a discussion titled \u201cAppreciating the Natural Treasures of the Wetlands\u201d \u2013 scheduled for 2 to 2:45 p.m. A second book signing will follow at 3 p.m.<\/p>\n

Bienvenu is co-editor (along with Judy Walker, food editor at The Times-Picayune) of \u201cCooking up a Storm: Recipes Lost and Found from The Times-Picayune,” which earned a nomination in the American cookbook category for The James Beard Foundation Awards, conducted last May. She is also known for her book \u201cWho’s Your Mama, Are You Catholic, and Can You Make a Roux?”<\/p>\n
