THIBODAUX, La. \u2013 To honor longtime ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ Foundation board member and university donor Robert E. \u201cBob\u201d Miller, ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ has named its honors program the <\/span>Robert E. Bob Miller Honors Program<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

A Morgan City native and ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ alumnus, Robert E. \u201cBob\u201d Miller has supported the university and its mission throughout his lifetime, contributing more than $1.3 million in donor support. Miller was an active industry support advisor to academic programs across the university and recently completed a long-tenured service as a member of the <\/span>ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ Foundation<\/span><\/a> Board.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cMr. Miller has been a longtime supporter of our Honors students and the program. With his help, our students have the opportunity to see the world and study in some amazing places,\u201d said Dr. Brigett Scott, associate dean of ÐÓ°É´«Ã½\u2019 College of Sciences and Technology, director of the Robert E. \u201cBob\u201d Miller Honors Program and professor of Dietetics.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBob Miller\u2019s selfless, generous support of our high-achieving students in the Honors Program is impactful and life-changing, providing regional students with global experiences and preparing for the world ahead,\u201d <\/span>said Dr. John Doucet, dean of ÐÓ°É´«Ã½\u2019 College of Sciences and Technology and Alcee Fortier distinguished professor.<\/span> \u201cWith Bob\u2019s critical support, the Honors Program at ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ has grown into one of the largest and most attractive honors programs in the state.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Miller founded <\/span>Major Equipment & Remediation Services, Inc.<\/span><\/a>, in his hometown of Morgan City, where he served as president from 1984 until he recently sold the company. Miller\u2019s personal and business philosophy was to provide the best possible services and products to support the energy industry and continually improve quality, knowledge, expertise and training.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Using the same vision, Miller approached former ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ Provost Dr. Alice Pecoraro in the late 1990s with the concept of creating and sustaining an honors program at the university. The goal of the program was to provide the best knowledge, experience and training to high-achieving ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ students, a majority of whom were first-generation college students and economically disadvantaged.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Since its inception in 1997, the honors program at ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ has provided students with dedicated study spaces and opportunities to conduct groundbreaking research, leadership training and international travel, all while earning course credit to complete their degrees. These opportunities were funded by Miller\u2019s unwavering commitment to the program and ÐÓ°É´«Ã½.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In recognition of his visionary leadership, success as an entrepreneur, dedication to providing high-achieving students with exceptional learning and leadership opportunities and consistent support of the overall university, ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ is proud to rename its honors program the \u201cRobert E. \u2018Bob\u2019 Miller Honors Program at ÐÓ°É´«Ã½.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
