{"id":10284,"date":"2026-08-14T09:59:54","date_gmt":"2026-08-14T14:59:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/?p=10284"},"modified":"2026-08-14T09:59:54","modified_gmt":"2026-08-14T14:59:54","slug":"four-nicholls-undergrads-selected-to-help-shape-louisianas-environmental-future","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/2026\/08\/14\/four-nicholls-undergrads-selected-to-help-shape-louisianas-environmental-future\/","title":{"rendered":"Four ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ Undergrads Selected to Help Shape Louisiana\u2019s Environmental Future"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">THIBODAUX, La. \u2013 Four ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ biology undergraduates have earned spots in the 2026-2027 Edgar Veillon Conservation Leadership Corps, placing them among 25 students chosen statewide to train as Louisiana\u2019s next generation of environmental leaders.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The selected students, Abigail Chiasson, Adrianna Dubois, Dani Thibodeaux and Danny Woods, will spend the next year learning directly from scientists, wildlife experts and policymakers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Organized by the Louisiana Wildlife Federation, the leadership program is now in its <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lawildlifefed.org\/2026\/07\/lwf-welcomes-2026-2027-conservation-leadership-corps-members-program-now-in-its-eighth-year\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">eighth<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> year. It connects college students from across the state with hands-on field experiences and professional networks to prepare them for careers in natural resources, public policy and environmental science.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the four ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ undergraduates, the selection offers a direct pathway to turn their classroom study into real-world conservation work.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chiasson, Thibodeaux and Woods are all studying marine biology, with Chiasson also following a pre-veterinary track. Dubois is focusing her degree in environmental biology.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Over the course of the program, the students will travel to field sites across Louisiana, tackle real challenges facing the state&#8217;s habitats and practice skills in leadership and advocacy. Their training ends at the Louisiana Wildlife Federation\u2019s annual convention, where they will watch state leaders debate and vote on actual conservation policies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Former program participants say the experience opens doors to internships and job offers long before graduation, giving students a head start in a competitive field.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;LWF is proud to invest in students who are passionate about Louisiana\u2019s wildlife and environment and eager to make a difference,&#8221; said Rebecca Triche, executive director of the Louisiana Wildlife Federation. &#8220;By connecting students with others who work to advance conservation and providing opportunities to learn through experience, EV-CLC helps prepare the next generation of leaders who will shape the future of conservation in our state.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The program is funded through support from the Mzuri Wildlife Foundation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Biology at ÐÓ°É´«Ã½<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Department of Biological Sciences at ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ provides students with hands-on, field-based education in the heart of the Mississippi River Delta.
