Since 2008, the department has secured approximately $200,000 in grants and in-kind donations.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/66\/2010\/06\/ÐÓ°É´«Ã½-Badge.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-1510\" title=\"ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ Badge\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/66\/2010\/06\/ÐÓ°É´«Ã½-Badge.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"252\" height=\"356\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/66\/2010\/06\/ÐÓ°É´«Ã½-Badge.jpg 252w, https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/66\/2010\/06\/ÐÓ°É´«Ã½-Badge-212x300.jpg 212w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 252px) 100vw, 252px\" \/><\/a>Competitive grants, totaling approximately $149,000, include funds from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission for a campus-wide alcohol and drug awareness program, and grants from the Board of Regents and the Governor\u2019s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management for technology upgrades.<\/p>\n<p>In-kind donations, valued at about $43,600, include a patrol car, night-vision goggles and a hand-held radar, courtesy of the United States Navy, and several radios provided by the Board of Regents, the Lafourche Parish Council and the Lafourche Parish Sheriff\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n<p>Additional agencies that have agreed to assist University Police with grants, equipment, training and travel include the Louisiana State Police, Terrebonne Parish Sheriff\u2019s Office and Houma Police Department<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring these rough times, strong relationships and determination help the police department maintain and improve the services it provides for the university community,\u201d Craig Jaccuzzo, director of university police and chief grant writer, said. \u201cThese agencies help us with much-needed equipment and training that we simply cannot afford on our own.
