  {"id":1753,"date":"2010-10-21T13:17:01","date_gmt":"2010-10-21T18:17:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/?p=1753"},"modified":"2010-10-21T13:17:01","modified_gmt":"2010-10-21T18:17:01","slug":"funding-approved-for-new-john-folse-culinary-institute-facility-at-nicholls","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/2010\/10\/21\/funding-approved-for-new-john-folse-culinary-institute-facility-at-nicholls\/","title":{"rendered":"Funding approved for new John Folse Culinary Institute facility at ÐÓ°É´«Ã½"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THIBODAUX \u2013 Today the State Bond Commission approved funding for the planning and design of the new John Folse Culinary Institute facility on the corner of Louisiana Highway 1 and Bowie Road, moving ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ one step closer to breaking ground.<!--more--><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1754\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1754\" style=\"width: 291px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/66\/2010\/10\/Chef-John-Folse.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-1754\" title=\"Bite of the Arts 2005\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/66\/2010\/10\/Chef-John-Folse-461x540.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"291\" height=\"341\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1754\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Chef John Folse<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cAfter so many years of waiting, I could not have been more excited when hearing of the State Bond Commission\u2019s approval of the $700,000 necessary for the planning and design of our institute\u2019s new culinary arts building,\u201d Chef John Folse, the institute\u2019s namesake and chairman of the board of advisors, said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith the rapid growth of enrollment in the culinary program at ÐÓ°É´«Ã½, the timing of this initiative could not have been better. We are simply out of space.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The institute is currently housed in Gouaux Hall on the ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ campus, with more than 300 students enrolled.<\/p>\n<p>Chef Randy Cheramie, executive director of the institute, said the new facility will \u201cbecome the regional epicenter for culinary arts training, as well as opportunities for teaching the wider community what we do, and who we are.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur approach to culinary arts is scholarly as well as hands-on, with a specialized commitment to teaching the history and traditions of Cajun and Creole cuisine, the most unique and important regional cuisine in America,&#8221; Cheramie said. &#8220;We live in a mecca of great food, so this institute is certainly vital to our region. It is an important cultural initiative, and we are only limited by our imagination.
