THIBODAUX \u2013 Christiano Rodrigues, a senior violin major from Jo\u00e3o Pessoa, Brazil \u2013 and soon to be the first graduate of the four-year-old string program at ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ \u2013 will perform a concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 15, in Talbot Hall Theater. The concert is free and open to the public.<\/p>\n

Rodrigues<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Assisted by Dr. Luciana Soares, associate professor of music, Rodrigues will perform Tchaikovsky\u2019s \u201cViolin Concerto in D\u201d, Sarasate\u2019s \u201cCarmen Fantasy\u201d and Brahms\u2019 \u201cSonata in A Major.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rodrigues began playing violin at the age of 4. At 15 he debuted as a soloist with the Bahia Symphony Orchestra, and he has since been an active soloist and chamber musician. He has won various awards during his time at ÐÓ°É´«Ã½, including third prize in the Music Teachers National Association competition last year. James Alexander, head of the string department at ÐÓ°É´«Ã½, recruited Rodrigues to ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ during a master-class program in Brazil.<\/p>\n

The senior has already been accepted into two graduate programs with scholarships \u2013 the Cleveland Institute of Music, in the class of Paul Kantor, and DePaul University, under Ilya Kaler, both leading pedagogues in their field.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are very proud of Christiano\u2019s accomplishments at ÐÓ°É´«Ã½, and we anticipate great things for him as he moves on.\u201d Alexander said. \u201cThis is exactly the sort of success that we hope to foster in the ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ string program.\u201d<\/p>\n
