{"id":5460,"date":"2014-06-13T09:19:47","date_gmt":"2014-06-13T14:19:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/?p=5460"},"modified":"2014-06-13T09:19:47","modified_gmt":"2014-06-13T14:19:47","slug":"100000-donation-benefits-nicholls-geomatics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/2014\/06\/13\/100000-donation-benefits-nicholls-geomatics\/","title":{"rendered":"$100,000 donation benefits ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ geomatics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/66\/2014\/06\/0604-geomatics-donation-CET-fund-2014-001.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-5461 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/66\/2014\/06\/0604-geomatics-donation-CET-fund-2014-001-540x360.jpg\" alt=\"Geomatics Donation from the Contractors Education Trust Fund 2014\" width=\"415\" height=\"276\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>THIBODAUX \u2014 ÐÓ°É´«Ã½\u2019s geomatics program will benefit from a $100,000 donation from the Contractors Educational Trust Fund.<\/p>\n<p>The donation will help ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ fund student scholarships, professorial endowments and workforce development opportunities.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The members of the Contractors&#8217; Trust clearly understand the heightened needs of higher education of this decade, and their support is a much appreciated example of a successful private-public partnership in higher education,\u201d said Dr. John Doucet, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Balaji Ramachandran, head of the Nicolls geomatics program, said donations from the Contractors&#8217; Trust have allowed the geomatics department to recruit and maintain quality faculty. Three previous donations were used to create a super endowed professorship in geomatics. The organization has also contributed $25,000 towards the Jules Oreste Chustz Endowed Student Scholarship.<\/p>\n<p>The Contractors Educational Trust Fund is financed through violation fines imposed by the Louisiana State Licensing Board of Contractors. The proceeds are used to benefit educational programs throughout Louisiana.<\/p>\n<p>The ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ geomatics program, the only one in the state of Louisiana, trains students to use satellite technology such as GPS to ultimately become professional land surveyors.
