THIBODAUX \u2014 The ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ Foundation and the ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ Department of Music will present the Seventh Annual Monster Piano Concert on Monday, Sept. 15 in the Mary M. Danos Theater. The doors to the theater will open at 6:45 p.m., with the performance beginning at 7 p.m. Light hors d\u2019oeuvres and an open bar will be available for patrons during intermission. <\/p>\n
This will be the last Monster Piano Concert before the Danos Theater undergoes renovations.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhile the music is certain to be every bit as entertaining as it has been in the past, the evening will also be as memorable for the university,\u201d said Dr. David Boudreaux, executive director of the ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ Foundation. \u201cSometime after the fall semester 2014 concludes, the university will close down the theater to begin the long-awaited renovation project. When we reopen the new theater, we will have a state-of-the art venue in which we can all take pride.\u201d<\/p>\n
The concert will feature more than 35 performers \u2014 including ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ faculty, alumni, friends of the university, and local high school students \u2014 performing on seven of the Department of Music\u2019s Steinway grand pianos. The ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ Department of Music is the only public music school in the state that\u2019s earned the designation of being an \u201cAll-Steinway School\u201d and exclusively uses elite Steinway pianos for performances and music education<\/p>\n
