That\u2019s an all-time high for ÐÓ°É´«Ã½, marking the fourth consecutive year that the university shows overall academic improvement. ÐÓ°É´«Ã½\u2019 overall GSR ranks third among the 11 Southland Conference schools and fourth among Louisiana\u2019s 11 public universities with Division I athletics \u2014 only trailing Louisiana State University, Louisiana Tech University and University of Louisiana at Lafayette.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a great accomplishment for the university\u2019s coaches, support staff and faculty who work hard to ensure that students perform well both on the playing field and in the classroom,\u201d said Dr. Bruce Murphy, ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ president. \u201cI\u2019m proud of our student athletes who put in long hours of coursework and practice each week, preparing for successful futures beyond their collegiate athletic careers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Two ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ teams \u2014 men\u2019s and women\u2019s tennis \u2014 have the highest GSR in the state, with women\u2019s tennis graduating 100 percent of its team. Of the university\u2019s 12 athletics programs, six teams earned top-ranking GSRs among Louisiana\u2019s Southland Conference schools, including football, softball, women\u2019s track, men\u2019s tennis, women\u2019s tennis and volleyball. ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ teams showing academic improvements over the past year include football, men\u2019s tennis, soccer and volleyball.<\/p>\n<p>Designed to more accurately predict the academic success of athletes, the GSR measures the proportion of student athletes who graduate and includes incoming transfer students, a regular occurrence in college athletics, in its calculations.
