{"id":5908,"date":"2016-08-17T17:58:29","date_gmt":"2016-08-17T22:58:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/?p=5908"},"modified":"2016-08-17T17:58:29","modified_gmt":"2016-08-17T22:58:29","slug":"nicholls-launches-crowd-funding-campaign-for-students-impacted-by-flooding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/2016\/08\/17\/nicholls-launches-crowd-funding-campaign-for-students-impacted-by-flooding\/","title":{"rendered":"ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ launches crowd-funding campaign for students impacted by flooding"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">THIBODAUX, La. &#8212; ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ is asking for community support to help a number of Colonels who have been impacted by the 1,000-year flood that devastated Baton Rouge and surrounding areas over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">More than 40,000 homes have been damaged and 10 people killed by historic floods caused upwards of 2 feet of rainfall over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cOver the past several days, our thoughts have been with the thousands of families impacted by the historic floods sweeping across our state,\u201d said ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ President Dr. Bruce Murphy. \u201cSome members of our ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ community and their families have suffered damage, and affected students now face unanticipated costs and possibly the loss of college necessities like books, supplies, clothing and campus residence items.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">To assist the Colonels in need, the ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ Foundation is sponsoring\u00a0an online crowd-sourcing campaign titled the &#8216;ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ Emergency Flood Relief&#8217; to assist affected students.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cOne of the things that makes our ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ family so special is the outpouring of care and concern for our community,\u201d Murphy said. \u201cBy coming together, we can help ensure that our affected Colonels get through these challenges as they continue to pursue their dreams of a college degree.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">With an initial goal of $10,000, the fundraiser began today and will close Aug. 31.
