{"id":5950,"date":"2016-09-28T11:19:50","date_gmt":"2016-09-28T16:19:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/?p=5950"},"modified":"2016-09-28T11:19:50","modified_gmt":"2016-09-28T16:19:50","slug":"danos-foundation-pledges-1-million-to-nicholls","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/2016\/09\/28\/danos-foundation-pledges-1-million-to-nicholls\/","title":{"rendered":"Danos Foundation pledges $1 million to ÐÓ°É´«Ã½"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_5951\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5951\" style=\"width: 532px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/66\/2016\/09\/AMC0349.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-5951\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/66\/2016\/09\/AMC0349-540x360.jpg\" alt=\"Mary &amp; Al Danos Theater Grand Re-Opening 2016 (Misty Leigh McElroy\/ÐÓ°É´«Ã½) 9\/27\/16\" width=\"532\" height=\"355\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5951\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mary &amp; Al Danos Theater Grand Re-Opening 2016 (Misty Leigh McElroy\/ÐÓ°É´«Ã½)<br \/>9\/27\/16<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">THIBODAUX, La. &#8212; ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ announced a $1 million donation from the Mary and Al Danos Family Foundation to support the newly renovated Danos Theater and the academic programs that benefit from it. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The last wishes of the Mary and Al, the theater\u2019s benefactors and longtime supporters, the donation will be drawn out over four years. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cA generous donation of this size means we\u2019ll be able to continue to provide to the community exactly what Mary and Al Danos had envisioned,\u201d said ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ President Bruce Murphy. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The four Danos children &#8211; Rene, Alyce, Andre and Marcel &#8211; presented the check during the grand reopening of the 5,500-square-foot, 240-seat theater, named in honor of their parents, and Talbot Hall. ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ students and faculty were featured during the event, titled an Opening Night Showcase of the Arts, with performances by the ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ Concert Choir, Jazz Band and ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ Players.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cOur dad always had everything planned and prepared. Even in his passing, he wanted to make sure this theater was taken care of. Our parents would be really proud of this,\u201d the Danos family said. \u201cThis will forever be a special place in our hearts to remember everything they\u2019ve done. We can\u2019t thank ÐÓ°É´«Ã½, Sen. Chabert and the community enough.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A Larose businessman and leader on the ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ Foundation board, Al Danos initiated interest in the project by helping fundraise $1.5 million for the renovation of the theater, which first opened in 1971. State Senator and ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ alum Norby Chabert helped secure the remaining funds through the state and the project expanded to include the 73,000-square-foot facility. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8220;If there&#8217;s one thing Al and Mary had an appreciation for, it&#8217;s the performing arts,\u201d Chabert said. \u00a0\u201cI join them and their family, for thanking the ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ community for making this possible.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Renovations feature structural and technological enhancements including new seating, curtains, flooring and state-of-the-art lighting and sound equipment. In addition, the campus TV studio, KNSU radio station and two Talbot Hall classrooms received technological upgrades to enhance student learning.
