{"id":6038,"date":"2017-02-07T12:06:03","date_gmt":"2017-02-07T18:06:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/?p=6038"},"modified":"2017-02-07T12:06:03","modified_gmt":"2017-02-07T18:06:03","slug":"new-orleans-jazz-musician-to-perform-at-nicholls","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/2017\/02\/07\/new-orleans-jazz-musician-to-perform-at-nicholls\/","title":{"rendered":"New Orleans jazz musician to perform at ÐÓ°É´«Ã½"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\">THIBODAUX, La. &#8212; Renowned New Orleans jazz pianist Ellis Marsalis Jr. will perform on campus Thursday as part of ÐÓ°É´«Ã½\u2019s celebration of African-American History Month.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Free and open to the public, the event will begin at 7 p.m. in the renovated Mary and Al Danos Theater in Talbot Hall.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The 82-year-old Marsalis, regarded by many as the premier modern jazz pianist, has been playing jazz for more than 50 years. He has played and recorded with other well-known jazz musicians, including Cannonball Adderley, Nat Adderley, Eddie Harris, Al Hirt, Fathead Newman, Courtney Pine and Marcus Roberts.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Though he has released nearly 20 studio albums, Marsalis has devoted much of his time to education. He has taught at the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts, the University of New Orleans and Xavier University.
