{"id":6224,"date":"2017-09-27T09:44:26","date_gmt":"2017-09-27T14:44:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/?p=6224"},"modified":"2017-09-27T09:44:26","modified_gmt":"2017-09-27T14:44:26","slug":"nicholls-adds-criminal-justice-degree-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/2017\/09\/27\/nicholls-adds-criminal-justice-degree-program\/","title":{"rendered":"ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ adds criminal justice degree program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">THIBODAUX, La. &#8212; ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ will offer a bachelor\u2019s degree in criminal justice with the first classes expected to begin in Fall 2018. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Today, the Louisiana Board of Regents unanimously approved the 120-hour degree program, designed for students interested in working in law enforcement, private security, forensics and social services fields. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A 21-hour concentration in coastal enforcement and security will provide a unique education in training for students interested in working for coastal security and law enforcement agencies, such as harbor police. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThis new degree program is an example of ÐÓ°É´«Ã½\u2019 commitment to meeting the needs of our students and our community,\u201d said Dr. Lynn Gillette, provost and vice president of academic affairs. \u201cWe worked with local law enforcement agencies, Fletcher Technical Community College and our faculty to develop this program and, with the inclusion of the concentration in coastal enforcement and security, have tailored to meet the needs of the Bayou Region.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The criminal justice degree will fall under ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ department of government and social sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences.
