THIBODAUX, La. — Fairytale author and associate professor of English at the University of Arizona Kate Bernheimer will join the ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ campus as the guest speaker for the 2017 Fletcher Lecture Series on Thursday, Oct. 5.<\/p>\n
Bernheimer will host a question-and-answer session at 11 a.m. in Le Bijou Theatre. At 6:30 p.m., she will deliver a lecture, titled \u201cModern American Fairy Tales,\u201d in the Gouaux Hall auditorium. The talk is free and open to the public.<\/p>\n
Described as \u201cone of the living masters of the fairy tale\u201d Bernheimer has published five books, a collection of short stories and three children\u2019s books. Her published works include \u201cThe Complete Tales of Ketzia Gold\u201d in 2001, \u201cThe Complete Tales of Merry Gold\u201d in 2006, \u201cThe Girl in the Castle Inside the Museum\u201d in 2008, \u201cHorse, Flower, Bird\u201d in 2010, \u00a0\u201cThe Complete Tales of Lucy Gold\u201d in 2011, \u201cThe Lonely Book\u201d in 2012, \u201cThe Girl Who Wouldn\u2019t Brush Her Hair\u201d in 2013, \u201cOffice at Night\u201d and \u201cHow a Mother Weaned Her Girl from Fairy Tales\u201d in 2014.<\/p>\n
She was the editor of the best-selling book, \u201cMy Mother She Killed Me, My Father He Ate Me: Forty New Fairy Tales\u201d in 2010.<\/p>\n
Sponsored by the Fletcher Lecture Committee, the Department of Languages & Literature, and the ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ Student Programming Association, the Fletcher Lecture Series is in its 32nd year. Last year, NPR radio host Nick Spitzer was the guest speaker. Other previous speakers include Benh Zeitlin, director of \u201cBeasts of the Southern Wild;\u201d Marilynne Robinson, author of Pulitzer Prize Award-winning novel, \u201cGilead;\u201d and Samuel Pickering, English Professor at the University of Connecticut in Storrs and inspiration for Mr. Keating from the movie, \u201dDead Poets Society.\u201d<\/p>\n
