{"id":6492,"date":"2018-02-28T16:33:42","date_gmt":"2018-02-28T22:33:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/?p=6492"},"modified":"2018-02-28T16:33:42","modified_gmt":"2018-02-28T22:33:42","slug":"chef-john-folse-students-take-home-top-louisiana-restaurant-association-award-11-other-scholarships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/2018\/02\/28\/chef-john-folse-students-take-home-top-louisiana-restaurant-association-award-11-other-scholarships\/","title":{"rendered":"Chef John Folse Culinary Institute students take home top Louisiana Restaurant Association award, 11 other scholarships"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_6493\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6493\" style=\"width: 360px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/66\/2018\/02\/0207-evan-landry-2018-1.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-6493 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/66\/2018\/02\/0207-evan-landry-2018-1-360x540.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"360\" height=\"540\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6493\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Evan Landry (Misty Leigh McElroy\/ÐÓ°É´«Ã½)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">THIBODAUX, La. &#8212; Chef John Folse Culinary Institute student Evan Landry has continued a recent tradition of ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ culinary students in taking home the Louisiana Restaurant Association&#8217;s top prize, the Jim Funk Scholarship, worth approximately $3,500.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Landry is a graduate of Denham Springs High School and is a third-year recipient of an LRAEF Scholarship award.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The Jim Funk Scholarship is named after the former LRA President &amp; CEO who created the educational foundation during his 30 years with the organization.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Moreover, the Louisiana Restaurant Association Education Foundation Scholarship Fund in 2018 awarded $48,000 over 19 ProStart and LRA Board scholarships, and current and future Chef John Folse Culinary Institute students earned 11 of those scholarships.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The recipients were honored Monday night at an LRAEF event \u201cServing the Future \u2014 Celebrating Careers in Hospitality\u201d at Generations Hall in New Orleans. The scholarships range from about $2,000 to $2,400.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cThe Louisiana Restaurant Association has been a wonderful partner to the Chef John Folse Culinary Institute, our students and future students,\u201d said Chef John Kozar, the program\u2019s department head. \u201cScholarships like this can make a big difference to students, as it enables them to spend more time focusing on learning and creativity rather than money.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The ProStart Scholarship is presented to students who have or will receive the National ProStart Certificate of Achievement. This year\u2019s current or future ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ recipients are: Sara Baiamonte, attending Hammond High Magnet School; Janesa Buras, attending Fontainebleau High School; Blane Coley, attending West Feliciana High School; Jenna Duryea, graduate of Lakeshore High School, is a third-year recipient; Claire LeBlanc, graduate of Fontainebleau High School, is a second-year recipient; and Brock Nichols, attending Sulphur High School.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The LRA Board Fund Scholarship is presented to students who intend to pursue a career in the restaurant, food service, tourism or hospitality industry. The fund is supported through an annual donation by the LRA Board of Directors.
