{"id":6643,"date":"2018-04-12T16:33:41","date_gmt":"2018-04-12T21:33:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/?p=6643"},"modified":"2018-04-12T16:33:41","modified_gmt":"2018-04-12T21:33:41","slug":"nicholls-faculty-to-debate-first-year-of-president-trump","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/2018\/04\/12\/nicholls-faculty-to-debate-first-year-of-president-trump\/","title":{"rendered":"ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ faculty to debate first year of President Trump"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">THIBODAUX, La. &#8212; ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ invites the community to campus next week as faculty discuss U.S. President Donald Trump.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">President Trump\u2019s first year in office will be the topic of debate at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, at Peltier Auditorium. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cCollege faculty are often stereotyped as far left radicals and while those professors certainly exist, you&#8217;ll also find faculty who aren&#8217;t so easily pigeonholed as being on the right or on the left politically,\u201d said Dr. Paul Wilson, Department of History and Geography head. \u201cI want students and others who attend to notice that faculty at ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ have varied political beliefs and the courage to defend and promote them in front of the public.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dr. Wilson, Interdisciplinary Studies Department Head Dr. Allen Alexander, finance professor Dr. Shari Lawrence, political science professor Dr. Rusty Thysell and political science department chair Dr. David Whitney will discuss four to five prepared questions, and then the audience will be allowed to ask questions related to the topic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Panelists will engage in honest debate and not just simply support their political team,\u00a0Dr. Wilson said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dr. Whitney said the topic was chosen due to the impact the U.S. President has on the everyday lives of the country\u2019s residents.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe live in a democratic republic and our representatives are a direct reflection of us.
