{"id":6795,"date":"2018-05-29T17:00:59","date_gmt":"2018-05-29T22:00:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/?p=6795"},"modified":"2018-05-29T17:00:59","modified_gmt":"2018-05-29T22:00:59","slug":"mass-communication-has-accreditation-reaffirmed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/2018\/05\/29\/mass-communication-has-accreditation-reaffirmed\/","title":{"rendered":"Mass Communication has accreditation reaffirmed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">THIBODAUX, La. &#8212; The ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ Mass Communication Department recently had its accreditation reaffirmed by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The committee\u2019s action followed a report based on an October 2017 visit from a site team that found the department in compliance with all nine accreditation standards.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This is the fourth re-affirmation since the department first received ACEJMC accreditation in 1994, and it is the second consecutive time the site team found the department in compliance with all standards.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIt\u2019s the result of a lot of hard work by the faculty during some trying fiscal times over the past several years,\u201d Mass Communication Department Head James Stewart said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Since the last site visit, Stewart said the department had done a great deal of work on the curriculum to make it more digitally oriented.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">He added that the program, which had continued to make strides forward during multiple years of standstill or reduced budgets, had over the last several years made almost $1 million in improvements and was poised to make additions to its facilities going forward.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Stewart said that the department has already begun to experience enrollment increases, and he expects to see that trend continue as students better understand the potential of a media degree in the digital world.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI think we are also seeing an uptick here because everyone is just so excited about the potential of the program,\u201d Stewart said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">May 29, 2018<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>CONTACT: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Jacob Batte, Media Relations and Publications Coordinator, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">985.448.4141<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> or <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">jacob.batte@www.nicholls.edu<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THIBODAUX, La. &#8212; The ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ Mass Communication Department recently had its accreditation reaffirmed by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication.
