THIBODAUX, La. — ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ recognized Laynie Barrilleaux\u2019s broad impact by awarding her emeritus status during Fall Convocation.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Barrilleaux (MBA, \u201880) served as vice president of Academic Affairs from 2011 to 2015, when she retired.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a wonderful university. To feel like I made a contribution after all these years, it warms my heart,\u201d Barrilleaux said. \u201cWhat more can I say, I\u2019m thrilled.\u201d<\/p>\n
During her 32 years, Barrilleaux played various roles across campus.\u00a0<\/p>\n
She served as assistant vice president of Academic Affairs from 2005 to 2010.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Barrilleaux led ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ through reaccreditation and recertification with the National Collegiate Athletic Association.<\/p>\n
When online education was in its infancy, she oversaw the development and maintenance of ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ Online.\u00a0<\/p>\n
She impacted the ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ Petroleum Engineering Technology and Safety Management program. When the workforce evolved, she restructured the program to meet their needs.\u00a0<\/p>\n
As an educator, Barrilleaux was a distinguished service professor of management. She also earned the ÐÓ°É´«Ã½\u2019 Presidential Award for Teaching Excellence.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ Alumni Federation awarded her the 2014 James Lynn Powell Outstanding Alumni Award.\u00a0<\/p>\n
During convocation, the university also awarded six endowed professorships.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Funded through generous private donations, professorships help ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ keep high-quality faculty. They provide supplemental funds for teaching, research or other professional endeavors.<\/p>\n
