{"id":7973,"date":"2019-10-21T12:00:08","date_gmt":"2019-10-21T12:00:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/?p=7973"},"modified":"2019-10-21T16:53:53","modified_gmt":"2019-10-21T16:53:53","slug":"join-nicholls-wind-ensemble-in-celebration-of-here-and-everywhere","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/2019\/10\/21\/join-nicholls-wind-ensemble-in-celebration-of-here-and-everywhere\/","title":{"rendered":"Join ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ Wind Ensemble in Celebration of Here and Everywhere"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>THIBODAUX, La. &#8212; The ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ Wind Ensemble invites you on a musical journey \u201cFrom Here to Everywhere\u201d during their Fall concert.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The concert will be at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24 in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/music\/facilities\/\">Mary and Al Danos Theater<\/a> and is free and open to the public. Dr. Jason Ladd, interim music department head, will conduct.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The \u201cHere\u201d part of the program will feature Suite Louisiane by James Syler. The Louisiana chapter of the College Band Directors National Association commissioned the piece. It includes five sections, each representing different parts of the unique Louisiana culture. One section resembles a church hymn, another Cajun music, while another has a Caribbean rhythm.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a great piece because it shows the different styles of music in Louisiana,\u201d said Dr. Ladd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ Wind Ensemble debuted the piece in January.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the music moves to \u201cEverywhere,\u201d some compositions will be familiar to moviegoers. Among the work is well-known music from the original Star Wars trilogy. There will also be a clarinet performance of Viktor\u2019s Tale from the film \u201cThe Terminal.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWith the help of my college band director, we made it sound as close to the version of the movie as possible,\u201d said Dr. Ladd.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Senior music majors Brenna Barrera, from Raceland, and Richard Galbreath, from Houma, will also conduct works.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Featuring professors who have performed at prestigious venues all over the world, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/music\/\">ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ Department of Music<\/a> offers hands-on experience in performance and music education.
