THIBODAUX, La. — ÐÓ°É´«Ã½\u2019s Choirs will explore the many facets of love as they are joined by world-renowned composer, John Muehleisen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Concert Choir will also premiere a vocal-trumpet arrangement of \u201cLove Is.\u201d The concert, free and open to the public, begins at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 25 at the Mary and Al Danos Theater. Muehleisen will give a pre-concert talk at 7 p.m. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Chamber Choir will be performing Muehleisen\u2019s \u201cPerplexed Music,\u201d which was inspired by English poet Elizabeth Barrett Browning\u2019s sonnet of the same name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Muehleisen, from the Pacific Northwest, has served as composer-in-residence for Seattle\u2019sOpus 7 Vocal Ensemble,was the final composer-in-residence for the Dale Warland Singers and he served two seasons in-residence with Seattle\u2019s Choral Arts Northwest. He was recently awarded honorable mention in the Major Choral Works division of the 2018\u20132019 American Prize for Professional Choral Composers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Having written over 150 vocal and choral works, critics and reviewers have described his music as \u201cbrilliantly crafted,\u201d \u201cstunning and evocative,\u201d and \u201ca perfect match of text and music.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr. John St. Marie directs the ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ choirs. Dr. Matthew Swihart will be performing on the trumpet, and Dr. Richard Jeric and Michelle Z. Parro will be accompanying on piano.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Thursday, Oct. 24 at 9 a.m. in the Mary and Al Danos Theater, Mueleisen, along with members of the ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ faculty, will present a lecture on text and poetry in music. The event is also open to the public. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ Concert Choir performs a variety of choral literature from all historical style periods each semester and performs at least one major work each year. The Concert Choir is well known in the community for its Candlelight Christmas Concert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
