THIBODAUX, La. — A ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ art professor has had a printmaking piece accepted to a national exhibition, the Four Rivers Print Biennial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Interim Art Department Head Ross Jahnke\u2019s work is titled \u201cFood Court,\u201d an image inspired by a sketch he made in an airport eatery. The piece was one of 44 selected from 229 submissions by 87 artists to the Southern Illinois University at Carbondale exhibit. The exhibition will be from Feb. 5 to March 27, with a reception and awards ceremony on March 21.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe print titled \u2018Food Court\u2019 is one of my favorites from the last two years,\u201d Jahnke said. \u201cI try to draw when I have downtime so many of my sketches are done in seating areas and restaurants. I draw the people who like me are quietly waiting for something to happen.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To make the print, Jahnke redrew the sketch onto a sheet of plywood and carved with gouges. He created the colors using a different printing process called silkscreen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jahnke said having his artwork selected by Mark Pascale, the Art Institute of Chicago\u2019s senior lecturer in printmaking, is an honor. Pascale is also the Curator of Prints and Drawings at the Art Institute of Chicago.
