Bagala"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>THIBODAUX, La. &#8212; Louisiana House Rep. Reggie Bagala\u2019s family has raised more than $10,000 to create a nursing scholarship at ÐÓ°É´«Ã½.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His son, Tristan Bagala, raised the money to provide a memorial scholarship for a ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ nursing student from Lafourche Parish or Grand Isle. More than 100 donors have raised a total of $11,000 to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/f\/reggie-bagala-nicholls-nursing-scholarship-benefit?utm_source=customer&amp;utm_medium=sms&amp;utm_campaign=p_cp+share-shee\">fundraiser<\/a>, surpassing the goal of $10,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cRep. Bagala was a champion for Lafourche Parish students and ÐÓ°É´«Ã½,\u201d said Dr. Sue Westbrook, provost and vice-president for academic affairs. \u201cWe mourn his loss and appreciate his family for thinking about our students at this time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bagala, R-Cut Off, passed away after a battle with COVID-19 on April 9. The legislator tested positive for the novel coronavirus on April 1.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAnyone who worked with him in his brief time in the state House can attest to his passion for ÐÓ°É´«Ã½,\u201d Tim Bagala said. \u201cHe loved seeing that young people were able to get a quality education and begin a life in Lafourche Parish.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bagala was serving his first term in District 54 after winning a three-way race on Oct. 12 for the seat.
