{"id":8309,"date":"2020-12-03T14:45:23","date_gmt":"2020-12-03T20:45:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/?p=8309"},"modified":"2020-12-03T14:45:24","modified_gmt":"2020-12-03T20:45:24","slug":"student-affairs-veteran-named-vice-president","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/2020\/12\/03\/student-affairs-veteran-named-vice-president\/","title":{"rendered":"Student Affairs Veteran Named Vice President"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>THIBODAUX, La. &#8212; ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ is naming <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/student-affairs\/\">Dr. Michele Caruso vice president for student affairs<\/a>, pending approval by the University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Caruso has served as interim vice president for student affairs since Feb. 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cÐÓ°É´«Ã½ has been my home for more than two decades, so I am thrilled to continue advocating for our students at the highest level,\u201d said Dr. Caruso. \u201cI care deeply about our students and am proud to support them during such a transformational time in their lives. I am honored to work with an exceptional student affairs team and&nbsp; I look forward to continuing working with Dr. Clune and the leadership team to provide the best undergraduate experience in the state.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Caruso joined the ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ campus in 1996. She served as the dean of student services for 16 years before becoming dean of students in 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn addition to her passion for our students\u2019 well-being and experience in diversity and inclusion initiatives, Dr. Caruso has demonstrated strong leadership in crisis since being named the interim vice president in February,\u201d said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/president\/\">ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ President Dr. Jay Clune<\/a>. \u201cI want to thank the search committee and Dr. Alex Arceneaux, the committee chair, for conducting a successful search.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since 2018, Dr. Caruso has helped bring <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/student-affairs\/moms-pantry\/\">Mom\u2019s Pantry<\/a> to campus and create <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/student-affairs\/tillous-table\/\">Tillou\u2019s Table<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/student-affairs\/beyond-the-pantry\/\">Beyond the Pantry<\/a> to combat food insecurity for students. She also founded the Colonel Acts of Kindness program to recognize members of the ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ community who go above and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Caruso has played an influential role on campus and across Louisiana in the areas of diversity and inclusion.
