{"id":8399,"date":"2021-03-29T08:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-03-29T13:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/?p=8399"},"modified":"2021-03-24T09:35:09","modified_gmt":"2021-03-24T14:35:09","slug":"nicholls-named-third-provider-for-leading-educational-technology-certification","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/2021\/03\/29\/nicholls-named-third-provider-for-leading-educational-technology-certification\/","title":{"rendered":"ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ Named Third Provider for Leading Educational Technology Certification"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>THIBODAUX, La. &#8212; The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) has officially certified ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ as the third higher education institution to provide the ISTE Certification for Educators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe COVID-19 pandemic has brought the need for educational technology leaders to the forefront of education at all levels,\u201d said Dr. Cynthia Vavasseur, professor of education. \u201cThe coursework within this new certification will be meaningful to teachers and students, and we will continue to strive for the highest applied practice distinction of the ISTE Standards for Educators.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ISTE is a nonprofit organization that works with the global education community to accelerate the use of technology to solve tough problems and inspire innovation. They are the largest educational technology organization around the world, and their annual conference draws around 25,000 attendees.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are excited to welcome ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ as a provider of the ISTE Certification for Educators,\u201d said Carolyn Sykora, senior director of ISTE Standards Program. \u201cÐÓ°É´«Ã½ joins a group of universities that are leading the charge in preparing teachers to use pedagogically sound, technologically innovative practices.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first two cohorts will begin this summer with one taking place within the College of Educational and Behavioral Sciences&nbsp; and the other through ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ Online. Both cohorts will be held virtually.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cohorts will last for 18 months, and the courses will be fully online. Students will receive a master\u2019s in educational technology leadership and the opportunity to earn the ISTE Certification through a portfolio review by ISTE. Teachers who already have their master\u2019s can enroll in the eight courses necessary to earn the designation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of the 1000 ISTE-certified educators worldwide, two of them are ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ faculty: Dr. Vavasseur and Dr. Sara Dempster, assistant professor of education.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For more information contact Dr. Vavasseur at <a
