THIBODAUX, La. — The coworkers from East Jefferson General Hospital, friends and family will contribute an initial gift of at least $11,400 to create the Glenda S. Tauzin Memorial Endowed Scholarship to benefit the ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ College of Nursing.<\/p>\n

Recipients will be full-time students in sophomore, junior or senior standing with at least a 3.0 GPA whose major is within the College of Nursing. The scholarship will be awarded to students selected by the ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ scholarship committee. The application process will include a biography and an essay responding to the prompt, \u201cWhat draws you to nursing?\u201d<\/p>\n

One scholarship will be awarded per academic year with an award amount of $500 with $250 allocated between the fall and spring semesters. This award may be increased as the endowment grows. The ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ Office of Financial Aid and the College of Nursing will advertise the scholarship to seek applicants.<\/p>\n

Glenda Tauzin, a native and resident of Larose, was a nursing graduate of ÐÓ°É´«Ã½, a RN at East Jefferson General Hospital and a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend. To honor her memory and the outstanding, selfless nurse she was, her coworkers at East Jefferson Hospital raised funds to create a nursing scholarship in her name.<\/p>\n

Her resilience, compassion and dedication to her patients was admirable. Because of this, her coworkers felt her career as a RN should be commemorated in hopes that scholarship recipients will follow in her footsteps.<\/p>\n

“We are so grateful to my mother’s work family and ÐÓ°É´«Ã½,” said Lilah Landry, daughter of Tauzin and instructor of biological sciences at ÐÓ°É´«Ã½. “We wish everyone could have been here for this moment. A special thanks to all of our family for continued love and support.”<\/p>\n

The ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ College of Nursing prepares students to contribute to a global society and a diverse workforce as productive, responsible and engaged citizens and as well-educated nurses to meet the healthcare needs of the Bayou region and beyond. This is accomplished by continuous improvement in teaching, research and service in a student-centered, culturally-rich and spirited-learning environment that fosters faculty, staff and student engagement.<\/p>\n

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree prepares students for registered nurse licensure and ultimately to communicate and practice safe, patient-centered, evidence-based care across the lifespan, within a dynamic and complex healthcare system. The baccalaureate degree program in nursing at ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.<\/p>\n

The College extends its mission beyond instruction by offering continuing nursing education activities for entry-level and advanced practice nurses. The College is dedicated to continuous quality improvement through systematic assessment and evaluation of program outcomes, processes and current and former students.<\/p>\n

ÐÓ°É´«Ã½\u2019 Betsy Cheramie Ayo Hall houses eight nursing laboratories. These labs, in total, house 48 hospital beds with associated bedside tables, over-bed tables, privacy curtains, wall mounts for oxygen, air, suction, otoscopes and all the amenities for fundamentals, medical-surgical, ob\/peds and mental health nursing, to mimic the hospital setting.<\/p>\n
