{"id":8921,"date":"2022-10-31T09:44:01","date_gmt":"2022-10-31T14:44:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/?p=8921"},"modified":"2022-10-31T09:44:01","modified_gmt":"2022-10-31T14:44:01","slug":"nicholls-to-host-retirement-celebration-honoring-dr-windell-curole","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/2022\/10\/31\/nicholls-to-host-retirement-celebration-honoring-dr-windell-curole\/","title":{"rendered":"ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ to Host Retirement Celebration Honoring Dr. Windell Curole"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THIBODAUX, La. &#8212; A Roast &amp; Toast Retirement Celebration honoring ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ alumnus Dr. Windell Curole is set to take place on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2022, in the ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ Ballroom from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. This event will celebrate Curole\u2019s 50 years of service to the people of Louisiana.<\/p>\n<p>Since 1980,\u00a0Curole\u2019s efforts in overseeing the South Lafourche levee system have saved thousands of lives as well as hundreds of millions of dollars in flood damage and remediation.\u00a0 The success of the levee system, together with\u00a0Curole\u2019s life-long advocacy for coastal protection and community safety, is widely known to state and national organizations.<\/p>\n<p>Curole\u00a0was also the visionary behind the Cheniere Hurricane Centennial, the 100-year commemoration of the Great Cheniere Hurricane of 1893, which became a festival that attracted nearly 10,000 visitors from around the world to South Lafourche communities in 1993.\u00a0 He was awarded the Honorary Doctorate of Sciences from ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWindell is a hero to so many people. He has a singular vision for community protection, which in turn is cultural protection,\u201d said ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ Dean of Sciences and Technology, Alcee Fortier Professor and Distinguished Service Professor Dr. John Doucet. \u201cAnd he works like a shrimper\u2014by the shrimp, not the clock. When there\u2019s shrimp in the water, he\u2019s working\u201424-7, no matter what time it is.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Curole has spent his life supporting and protecting South Lafourche communities.\u00a0Celebrate his story of Cajun ingenuity and his impact on coastal Louisiana.<\/p>\n<p>Tickets are $70 per person, RSVP is required and dress is business attire. Heavy hors d\u2019oeuvres and cocktails will be served.
