This conference is in celebration of ÐÓ°É´«Ã½\u2019 75th Anniversary and the Center for Bayou Studies\u2019 10th Anniversary.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The conference will feature 25 presentations from faculty and students on diverse aspects of the bayou region, including historical communities, the French language, ecology and the<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">environment, seafood species, public health, bayou literature, the Gulf Coast, and other areas of study. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in a poster session on research.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cProfessors tend to work in their own silos. The Center for Bayou Studies offers an alternative where professors can emerge from their silos and work together among many different disciplines\u201d said Dr. Gary LaFleur, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">director of the Center for Bayou Studies and associate professor of biology.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This year\u2019s Bayou Studies Conference is hosted by the Center for Bayou Studies, a consortium of faculty and students at ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ dedicated to the cultural and scientific studies of the Bayou Region. The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/center-bayou-studies\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Center for Bayou Studies<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> focuses on the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">environment<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">culture<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> of the Louisiana river basin referred to as the \u201cBayou Region,\u201d which encompasses the parishes touched by Mississippi River tributaries and the South Louisiana marshland.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The conference is free and open to the public.
