{"id":9538,"date":"2024-06-13T16:05:24","date_gmt":"2024-06-13T21:05:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/?p=9538"},"modified":"2024-06-13T16:06:57","modified_gmt":"2024-06-13T21:06:57","slug":"nicholls-uno-sign-engineering-mou","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/2024\/06\/13\/nicholls-uno-sign-engineering-mou\/","title":{"rendered":"ÐÓ°É´«Ã½, UNO Sign Engineering MOU"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">THIBODAUX, La. \u2013 ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ and the University of New Orleans have signed an agreement to develop a plan to offer UNO\u2019s Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering on ÐÓ°É´«Ã½\u2019 campus and prepare students in an engineering curriculum aligned with local industry needs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ has identified a large population of students in its region who have left the area to study engineering at other universities. The agreement between ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ and UNO will enhance the capacity of each school to address needs in the engineering workforce by working collaboratively to design academic offerings focused on improving engineering workforce talent.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cÐÓ°É´«Ã½ recognizes the need in our region for professionals in engineering and similar disciplines to fill the workforce,\u201d said Jay Clune, ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ President. \u201cPartnerships like this one with UNO strengthen not only our ties with a sister institution but also our ties with the region we serve.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe see this as an opportunity to grow our mechanical engineering program while supporting the need for workforce development and economic growth in the Bayou Region,\u201d said Lizette Chevalier, dean of UNO\u2019s Dr. Robert A. Savoie College of Engineering. \u201cÐÓ°É´«Ã½ already has a pre-engineering program and ties to its regional engineering community, so this partnership will help us build collaboratively.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The plan includes delivery of up to six semesters of coursework relevant to UNO\u2019s Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering through ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ and a guide for reliable transfer of coursework between the universities. Faculty members on both campuses will be able to accommodate student advising and counseling, professional development and connect students to industry and professional practitioners. The universities will facilitate collaborative research and service ventures between faculty at UNO and ÐÓ°É´«Ã½, involving students and improving knowledge of engineering issues.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This example of collaboration is in addition to the agreement signed between the universities in 2019 stating that ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ pre-engineering students can transfer seamlessly to UNO to complete their engineering studies. ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ students can transfer as juniors into the Bachelor of Science in any of UNO\u2019s undergraduate engineering programs.
