  {"id":626,"date":"2012-06-14T14:12:39","date_gmt":"2012-06-14T19:12:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/police\/?page_id=626"},"modified":"2012-06-14T14:12:39","modified_gmt":"2012-06-14T19:12:39","slug":"ethics","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/police\/about-university-police\/ethics\/","title":{"rendered":"Ethics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When an officer is hired by the ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ Police Department, they agree to this \u00a0 &#8220;Code of Ethics&#8221; and &#8220;Oath of Honor:<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>&#8220;On my honor,<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong> I will never betray my badge,<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong> my integrity, my character,<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong> or the public trust.<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong> I will always have<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong> the courage to hold myself<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong> and others accountable for our actions.<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong> I will always uphold the constitution<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong> my community and the agency I serve.&#8221;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Before any officer takes the Law Enforcement Oath of Honor, it is important that he\/she understands what it means. An oath is a solemn pledge someone makes when he\/she sincerely intends to do what he\/she says.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Honor<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0means that one&#8217;s word is given as a guarantee.<br \/>\n<strong><em>Betray<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0is defined as breaking faith with the public trust.<br \/>\n<strong><em>Badge<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0is the symbol of your office.<br \/>\n<strong><em>Integrity<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0is being the same person in both private and public life.<br \/>\n<strong><em>Character<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0means the qualities that distinguish an individual.<br \/>\n<strong><em>Public trust<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0is a charge of duty imposed in faith toward those you serve.<br \/>\n<strong><em>Courage<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0is having the strength to withstand unethical pressure, fear or danger.<br \/>\n<strong><em>Accountability<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0means that you are answerable and responsible to your oath of office.<br \/>\n<strong><em>Community<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0is the jurisdiction and citizens served.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When an officer is hired by the ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ Police Department, they agree to this \u00a0 &#8220;Code of Ethics&#8221; and &#8220;Oath of Honor: &#8220;On my honor, I will never betray my badge, my integrity, my character, or the public trust.
