The University recognizes, however, that faculty may be called upon from time to time to perform additional tasks over and above their regularly assigned duties for which they may receive extra compensation. Exceptions to this policy, consistent with Federal and State statutes and directives, must be approved by the President.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#top\">Back to Top<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a name=\"5.5.1.1\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h4 style=\"padding-left: 30px\">5.5.1.1 Compensation Categories<\/h4>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">The following two categories of activities are allowed under the policy:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<ul style=\"padding-left: 30px\">\n<li><i>Category<\/i><i> I.<\/i> Short\u2013term Activities (non\u2013credit conference, short courses, workshops and similar activities).<\/li>\n<li><i>Category II<\/i>. Credit Courses<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><a href=\"#top\">Back to Top<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><a name=\"5.5.1.2\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h4 style=\"padding-left: 30px\">5.5.1.2 Restrictions for Category I and II<\/h4>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">following <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">general <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">restrictions <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">shall <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">apply <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">both <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">categories <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">activities<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">An <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">employee must <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">be <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">certified <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">by <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">his <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">or <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">her <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Department <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Head <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">or <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dean <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">as <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">working <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">a full <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">load <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">in <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">addition <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">activity <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">for <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">which <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">extra <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">compensation <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">is <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">being <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">recommended<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">work <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">for <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">extra <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">compensation <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">shall <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">not <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">in <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">any <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">way <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">interfere <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">with <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">regular <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">duties <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">individual<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">as <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">certified <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">by <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">dean <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">or <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">supervisor<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">request <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">for <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">extra <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">compensation <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">should <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">be <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">approved <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">in <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">writing <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">by <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Department <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Head <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">or <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dean <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">in <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">advance <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">performance <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the work<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Federal funds <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">may <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">not <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">be <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">used <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">pay extra compensation unless <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">specifically <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">authorized <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">by <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">sponsoring <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">agency<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Stipend <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">for <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">extra <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">compensation <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">must <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">be <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">authorized <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">be <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">paid <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">at <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">regular <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">payroll <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">period <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">for <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the time period <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">in <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">which <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">it <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">is <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">earned<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li>An employee may engage in two activities in Category II per semester for extra compensation unless approved by the Dean and the Vice President for Academic affairs.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">An <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">employee <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">is <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">limited <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">one <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">off<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8211;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">campus <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">credit <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">course <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">per <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">semester <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">for <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">extra <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">compensation <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">unless <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">approved <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">by <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dean <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and Vice <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">President <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">for <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Academic <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Affairs<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Extra compensation <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">will <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">not <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">be <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">allowed <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">if <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">conflict <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">interest <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">is involved<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">University <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">funds <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">will <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">not <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">be <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">used <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">for <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">extra <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">compensation <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">for <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">speeches<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">public appearances <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">that <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">constitute <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">civic <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">activities<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">public <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">relations<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">development <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">activities<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">University <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">funds <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">will <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">not be <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">used <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">for <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">extra compensation <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">for <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">research<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">research <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">consultation<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">collaboration<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">or <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">creative <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">works<\/span><span style=\"padding-left: 30px\">5.5.1.3 Compensation for Category I Activities<\/h4>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">The maximum amount which may be paid a faculty member through University sources in an academic year is subject to the approval of the Vice President for Academic Affairs and the President whenever that amount exceeds 25% of the faculty member&#8217;s academic year salary. Additional monies can be earned in the summer, provided the total summer compensation does not exceed one\u2013third of the total academic year&#8217;s salary. All authorizations for extra compensation in Category I non\u2013credit activities must be approved by the President or designee.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><a href=\"#top\">Back to style=\"font-weight: 400\">rank <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">at <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">established <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">University <\/span><span
