Promotion and Tenure Policies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Board of Supervisors in its Rules has established general guidelines for promotion and tenure for its member institutions. These general guidelines follow.<\/p>\n<p>The Board of Supervisors has mandated that<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>each institution evaluate each faculty member and administrator at least on an annual basis by the Department Head with review by the Dean;<\/li>\n<li>the evaluation should be based on the faculty member&#8217;s job responsibility and must indicate various levels of performance ranging from \u201cunsatisfactory\u201d to higher levels;<\/li>\n<li>each institution set criteria for faculty promotion and tenure.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>At ÐÓ°É´«Ã½, the processes established for the yearly evaluation are the formative and the summative evaluations. \u201cThe Common Form\u201d\u00a0is the annual assessment instrument used for formative evaluations. \u201cThe Common Form\u201d is also used for merit pay determinations and is also a primary evidential document in summative evaluations that are used for promotion and tenure determinations.<\/p>\n<p>ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ has also established specific criteria for faculty promotion and tenure. These criteria, which take the Board\u2019s guidelines into account, are given in sections titled <i>Board of Supervisors Promotion and Tenure Policies and Formative Evaluation <\/i>and<i> Scope of the University Promotion and Tenure Policy<\/i> of this Manual.<\/p>\n<p>Board of Supervisors policies concerning promotion and tenure shall have precedence whenever University policy conflicts with Board policy.<\/p>\n<p>In Sections titled <i>Board of Supervisors Promotion and Tenure Policies<\/i> and <i>Performance Assessment of this Manual<\/i> the words \u201cdepartment,\u201d \u201cacademic unit,\u201d \u201cstructure,\u201d and \u201cunit\u201d all refer to the academic departments within the University. An academic department is one that grants tenure.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/policy-procedure-manual\/?p=856\">2.9.1. Board of Supervisors Promotion and Tenure Policies<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/policy-procedure-manual\/?p=858\">2.9.2.
