  {"id":645,"date":"2010-02-09T11:08:12","date_gmt":"2010-02-09T16:08:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/safety\/?page_id=645"},"modified":"2010-02-09T11:08:12","modified_gmt":"2010-02-09T16:08:12","slug":"safety-rules","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/safety\/training-2\/safety-rules\/","title":{"rendered":"Safety Rules"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>1. \u00a0 Observe and follow all posted safety notices.<br \/>\n2.\u00a0\u00a0 The use of any tobacco product in any form is prohibited on all ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ properties including the main campus, Duhe Building, Chauvin Gardens, etc.<br \/>\n3. \u00a0 No fighting or horseplay allowed in the work area or classroom.<br \/>\n4. \u00a0 Know where fire extinguishers are located and how to use them.<br \/>\n5.\u00a0\u00a0 Evacuate in an orderly manner if the fire alarm sounds.<br \/>\n6. \u00a0 Know designated evacuation routes from your office, floor and building.<br \/>\n7.\u00a0\u00a0 Know emergency phone numbers or access to them.<br \/>\n8.\u00a0\u00a0 Report all injuries and accidents to your supervisor.<br \/>\n9.\u00a0\u00a0 Report any equipment that is not operating properly to your supervisor.<br \/>\n10.\u00a0 Do not run in the work area.<br \/>\n11.\u00a0 Report unsafe conditions to your supervisor.<br \/>\n12.\u00a0 Do not throw objects in the work area.<br \/>\n13.\u00a0 Keep your work station clean and orderly.<br \/>\n14.\u00a0 Keep floor free of litter.<br \/>\n15.\u00a0 Place litter and waste materials in proper containers.<br \/>\n16.\u00a0 Do not walk on wet floors and immediately wipe up spills.<br \/>\n17.\u00a0 Keep passageway clear to allow easy access and exit.<br \/>\n18.\u00a0 Keep desk, filing drawers, etc. closed to avoid a potential tripping hazard.<br \/>\n19.\u00a0 Return equipment and material to their proper place after use.<br \/>\n20.\u00a0 Report lighting and ventilation problems affecting you to your immediate supervisor.<br \/>\n21.\u00a0 Always read labels before using chemicals, bleaches, cleaning fluid, etc. that could be harmful if spilled.<br \/>\n22.\u00a0 When working with hazardous chemicals, do not work alone.<br \/>\n23.\u00a0 Use only approved cleaning fluids when cleaning machinery. Remember to allow for proper ventilation. Dispose of rags and waste material in proper containers and away from heat.<br \/>\n24.\u00a0 Do not operate machinery or equipment without proper training.<br \/>\n25.\u00a0 Never leave machinery or equipment in operation unattended. Turn all machinery and equipment off before leaving the office at the end of the workday.<br \/>\n26.\u00a0 Neckties, scarves and other loose apparel should be secured when working around equipment.<br \/>\n27.\u00a0 Notify your supervisor of any breakage or malfunction of machinery or equipment.<br \/>\n28.\u00a0 Wear eye protection, respirators, or protective clothing in regulated areas or during functions requiring protective gear.<br \/>\n29.\u00a0 Report frayed electrical cords immediately.<br \/>\n30.\u00a0 Tape temporary electrical cords to the floor to prevent tripping.<br \/>\n31.\u00a0 Do not overload electrical circuits.<br \/>\n32.\u00a0 Do not use electrical extension cords as a permanent electrical line.<br \/>\n33.\u00a0 Never turn on an electrical switch unless you know what it operates and have had the adequate training on that piece of equipment.<br \/>\n34.\u00a0 Do not attempt to repair electrical devices unless properly trained to do so. Report to your supervisor.<br \/>\n35.\u00a0 Keep flammable items away from electrical outlets, cords or other electrical apparatus.<br \/>\n36.\u00a0 Use only properly grounded electrical equipment.<br \/>\n37.\u00a0 When using university vehicles or your own vehicle for authorized\u00a0 travel, remember to use your seat belt and drive defensively.<br \/>\n38.\u00a0 Only authorized drivers allowed to operate state vehicles or personal\u00a0 vehicles for state business.<br \/>\n39.\u00a0 Do not text and drive.<\/p>\n<p>These above safety rules are not inclusive. They are intended as a guide to develop proper health and safety practices and procedures. Should you have questions or doubts about safe operations in the workplace, please contact your supervisor or the Safety Officer.
