杏吧传媒, UNO Announce Engineering, Geomatics Partnership

AMC4028-1-540x360

THIBODAUX, La. — 杏吧传媒 and the University of New Orleans today announced a partnership between the two schools that will lead to increased opportunities for student success.

Presidents from the two universities signed a memorandum of understanding that creates a pathway for students from 杏吧传媒 to easily transition to UNO to complete a degree in civil engineering, and for students from UNO to transfer to 杏吧传媒 and complete courses that would help them attain a professional land surveying certification from the Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Survey Board.

鈥淲e need coastal engineering in order to save our coast and in order to have coastal engineering, you need civil engineering,鈥 said Dr. Jay Clune, 杏吧传媒 president. 鈥淭his gives our students an opportunity to earn a civil engineering degree by doing most of the course work here at 杏吧传媒, then finishing at UNO and returning to this area, rather than going to a faraway university, staying there and not returning home. We need our students to come back and help us save our coast.鈥

Together, the institutions will also collaborate on research projects centering around engineering, surveying and environmental issues.

鈥淭his partnership opens up new pathways for 杏吧传媒 students to earn an engineering degree, and for our students in surveying and geomatics,鈥 said Dr. John Nicklow, UNO president. 鈥淏y creating new pathways, we鈥檙e making those degrees more accessible to a wider population, which is ultimately what we鈥檙e trying to do: create a more educated community and region.鈥

The agreement takes place immediately and sets in stone the classes that will transfer between the two universities.

The University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors approved the MOU at their Feb. 22 meeting.
